Introduction to 3D Animations

3D Digital Modeling is a powerful new drafting process that allows the architect to create a life-like image of the finished project, long before construction ever begins.

A computer wireframe is drawn using a computer modeling program that creates the various shapes and solids of the geometry of the architect’s design. Colors and textures are then “mapped” onto these shapes and solids to depict the various building materials such as brick, glass or metal. Then environmental elements are added such as sky, trees, cars and people.

Lastly, virtual “lights” are added to the computer scene to illuminate the virtual model as if it were a sunny day, or perhaps in the evening with the building all lit up. The end result is a realistic “rendering” of the intended design. Nearly every image used on this website is, or was derived from, the 3D renderings we have done for our clients.

The Benefits

Never before has such a powerful communication tool been available to the architectural client.

With a computer generated rendering the client can get a good look at at their building before it is completed. This is enormously valuable when determining the finishes for the exterior of the building, or how the building relates to existing structures.
A computer generated rendering goes a long way in selling others on the new building as well. Often financial institutions are involved in the financing of the project. Sometimes there are civic groups or other organizations who have some interest in the building and its appearance.

And for the Pastor and church leaders, the renderings are a vehicle for communicating the vision of the project to the congregation. Parishioners can see what they are investing in.

Still Renderings

There are actually two different types of 3D renderings. “Still Renderings” are snapshots of the building in a Representation of its surrounding environment.

Still renderings are available in digital format in almost any size, and can be used on pamphlets, web pages, Powerpoint presentations, and are often printed on large boards and framed to hang on the wall.

3D Animations

The second type of 3D rendering takes longer to produce, but is very worthwhile. A 3D animation is a miniature movie of the new building and is often combined with music and other thematic elements like scripture selections. Our 3D animations are a powerful complement to fund-raising campaigns, and can be very moving emotionally and spiritually.

The Process

While most firms who offer 3D rendering services “outsource” or hire another company to produce them, Barnes Design Group does them in-house. This means that our staff is intimately involved in the production process, so that the final product “fits” the client or the congregation, whichever is the case.
